Tired of the same old card messages? We’ve got a guide bursting with ideas on what to write in a Mother’s Day card as well as mum quotes that are ideal for jotting inside.
1. The type-A mum
We all know a type-A mum, and let’s be honest—we probably envy her. While you’re turning up to the school run in your pyjama bottoms (that you’re hoping pass for joggers), she’s showing up in her gym gear with a food shop, park run, and Pilates class already under her belt.
Somehow, she’s also rocking a bouncy blow-dry and perfectly manicured nails, all while balancing the chaos of mum life effortlessly. Oh, and she magically makes time to be the designated PTA mum too. Seriously, what’s her secret?
2. The mum that’s trying her best
The complete opposite of the type-A mum, this mum is just about hanging on by a thread. She gives off pure Bridget Jones vibes, running on no sleep, pure adrenaline, and five cups of coffee to get her through the day.
Her house may be filled with piles of washing and trails of odd socks (that she’s definitely going to pick up after work), but it’s also filled with tons of fun and love. In the midst of the chaos, she still manages to show up to the nativity play, parent’s evening, and get the kids to school on time—talk about superwoman.
3. The cool mum
100% chilled and effortlessly cool, this is the mum we all aspire to be. She has that natural knack for breezing through parenthood and somehow manages to make it all look easy.
Whether it’s trampoline parks, camping adventures, or outdoor movie nights, the answer is always yes. And as her kids get older, she’ll probably become the designated taxi mum too, picking you and your mates up from town at silly o’clock.
4. The strict mum
The complete opposite of the laid-back mum, this mum has to have absolutely everything in perfect order, all the time. Homework done by 5, dinner by 6, then all the kids in bed by 8 without fail.
Her colour-coded calendar runs like clockwork, and her kids are enrolled in an obscene amount of activities: drama lessons, piano, football, and badminton. She runs a pretty tight ship, and she’s always got everything under control.
5. The wine mum
Probably best friends with the cool mum, the wine mum is a little bit chaotic but a whole lot of fun. On her rare days off, you’ll find her lounging around with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.
When you need someone to host girl’s night to give everyone a much-needed break, she’s the first to volunteer, and don’t we just love her for it.
6. The overprotective mum
Also described as the bubble wrap mum, this mum’s mission is to protect her kids from anything and everything the world has to offer.
Hand sanitiser? Check. Bug spray? Check. She’s got a Mary Poppins-style bag stocked with everything you could ever possibly need. You’ll also hear her shouting “zip up your jacket!”, “stop running”, and “do you have your sun cream on?” on the daily, but if there’s one thing for sure, it all comes from a place of love.
7. The overly sentimental mum
You’ll find the overly sentimental mum sat front row at the school play with tears streaming down her face. She has a soft spot for every milestone and memory, holding onto every drawing, painting, and pipe cleaner creation her kids have ever given her.
In fact, she’s got perfectly organised scrapbooks displaying all her favourite memories, and no, she won’t stop when the kids hit eighteen.
8. The Instagram mum
The wannabe influencer mum is in the loop with all the latest trends and she’s always ready for a photo op. Her kids look picture perfect, and she jumps at every opportunity to snap a pic of them for her perfectly curated feed.
Her Instagram is littered with pumpkin patch trips, picnics in the park, and plenty of smiling faces. But don’t fear, as idyllic as it all seems, she’s still juggling the chaos of motherhood just like the rest of us.
9. The DIY mum
The DIY mum is always baking or building something new. From spectacular parties with DIY décor to perfectly decorated cakes, she’s got a trick up her sleeve for everything.
That Halloween costume that’s been left till the last minute? Don’t worry, she’ll have a spooky witch dress ready by the morning. Creative, resourceful, and ready for every eventuality, what would we do without her?
10. The mum who’s also your best friend
Last up, we have the mum who’s not only a parent but also a best friend. She’s the mum everyone wants to be and everyone wants to have, standing in your corner no matter what life throws.
This mum might be an empty nester, yet she’s always there to answer ten facetime calls a day. Let’s be honest though, a lot of these calls typically end up being about adulting—Does this look cooked mum? Does my outfit look alright? Why is my dishwasher beeping?
If you’ve got a mum like this, count yourself lucky, and if you are this mum, pat yourself on the back for acing this whole motherhood thing.
So, there we have it: our insights on all the different types of mothers out there! From cool and collected mums to the ultra-organised mums, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to motherhood.
