A christening is the first big event in a child’s life – but since they’re very unlikely to appreciate beautifully-penned heartfelt sentiments while they’re still in a baby onesie, it can be hard to know what to write. Who do you address a christening card to? And should you go down the simple, traditional, or funny route?
Well, to make it nice and simple, we’ve pulled together a list of christening messages perfect to put in your card. Whether you’re a proud godparent, family member, or friend, just dive in and pick your favourite! And if you’re yet to find the perfect card, we’ve got that covered too – check out a selection of our wonderful christening cards below:
Who do you address a christening card to?
The first question you may ask before writing a christening card is who to address it to. The baby, obviously, will not be able to read it. It’s the parents that will receive the card and give their thanks for celebrating with them. So, who should you address the card to and why?
For godparents, it’s customary to address the card to their godchild. Not only does this strengthen the connection between you and the baby, but it will also be a cherished memory that the child will be able to look back on when they grow up. That’s the magic of cards – they’re mementos of a moment in time!
For the other guests, a card addressed to the parents would be appropriate. You are letting them know how happy you are to celebrate their child’s special day, and a heartfelt message will reinforce that even more. This doesn’t mean you can’t buy a card for the baby as well. After all, what’s better than one card but two?!
