Cheese is one of life’s simple pleasures. Whether you prefer a perfectly baked Camembert, a deliciously melty brie or a vintage Cheddar strong enough to lift weights, if you love cheese, chances are you’ll be delighted to hear that January 20th is National Cheese Lover’s Day.
We think it’s a controversial date considering how close it is to the cheese-and-crackers excesses of the Christmas season, but if you’re feeling the craving and looking for an excuse to indulge in some cheesy goodness, look no further. To celebrate National Cheese Lover’s Day, we’ve put together some of our favourite cheese birthday cards, along with some gifting ideas and an excellent cheese-based recipe.

Cheesy recipe – Classic Swiss fondue

Turn your cheese into something even greater than its original form (or should that be grater… we’ll see ourselves out) with a luxurious Swiss fondue. It’s easier to make a truly great, creamy fondue than you might think – here’s our recipe.
- Clove of garlic
- 1 pound grated Gruyère cheese
- 1 pound grated Swiss cheese
- 1 cup white wine
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- Black pepper and nutmeg to season
- Rub the inside of a fondue pot of medium cast-iron casserole dish with the clove of garlic.
- Combine the grated cheese with the wine, cornstarch and lemon juice. Add more cheese slowly and stir constantly over moderate heat until the cheeses melt together
- Season to taste with generous freshly ground black pepper and nutmeg.
- Serve with crusty bread, cherry tomatoes, tart cubed apples or deli meats.
No matter how you choose to celebrate National Cheese Lover’s Day, make sure to celebrate your cheese-loving friends with our range of cheesy cards to really bring a smile to their faces. And for more gifting ideas, check out our gifting idea blogs, and the rest of the thortful blog.
