Hello creators! Let’s talk about slots. We know they can be a little tricky to get to grips with at first, so here’s the explainer, as well as some frequently asked questions.
First things first, what are slots?
Simply put, if you have 5 slots available, you’re able to sell 5 designs from your profile and, if the designs are approved, the thortful catalogue. You can view the number of slots you have in your creator dashboard – if you’re a new creator, you’ll automatically receive 5 slots upon sign up. They can be increased over time upon request, based on your total sales and sales potential. For this reason, and for the best chance of having your slots increased, we suggest you use your initial slots for your best sellers and prioritise occasion-themed designs.
Why do we have slots?
As an open marketplace, we pride ourselves on the fact that anyone can upload their designs for consideration. We believe a great card can come from anywhere! This does mean, however, that all designs uploaded to thortful are manually moderated by our team, so that we can curate a catalogue of high quality cards our customers love. Having a cap sets a manageable limit to how many designs go through the moderation process (we’re humans, not robots!) and it helps our creators be selective with their range in a way that will maximise their sales potential on thortful.
How do slots work?
You can fill your slots by uploading designs to the website, but once they’re full you’ll be unable to upload any more. If you spot that one of your cards isn’t selling as well as you’d hoped, you can switch this out by deleting the design from your profile, freeing up your slot, and uploading a new one in its place. This can be done from the Card Management tab in your creator account, using the little bin icon beneath your design.
It’s worth noting that there’s also an overall upload limit, which is in place to stop creators endlessly uploading and switching up their cards (again, everything uploaded to thortful has to be moderated by our small team). This limit counts any cards you have uploaded, even if you’ve since deleted them. This isn’t something currently visible from your creator account, but you’ll know you’ve reached your overall upload limit when you receive an error message while trying to upload your cards. If this happens, simply get in touch at [email protected] and, providing your designs are selling well and the majority of them have been accepted into the catalogue, we’ll be happy to review your slots and upload limits.
How can I optimise my slots?
To start off with, we suggest uploading the cards you think have the best sales potential. Focus on upcoming occasions, as well as key ‘always-on’ occasions such as Birthday and Anniversary, as these are our best-selling categories.
Unless you’re planning to promote your thortful range by directing traffic to your profile, we’d also suggest deleting cards that have been moderated as ‘profile only’, and uploading others in their place. If a card is approved to ‘profile only’ it means it will not be available from the thortful catalogue but can still be sold directly from your profile, so without self-promotion you are unlikely to see any sales (though we always recommend self-promotion regardless of moderation status!) Once your cards are moderated you can check their moderation status from your creator account under ‘Card Management’. Once again, be mindful that there is a limit to how many times you can do this, so be selective about the designs you upload to thortful.
FAQs
How can I request more slots?
If your cards are selling well and you would like to request additional slots, get in touch with us at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to review your upload limits. You should receive a response from our team within 2-5 working days.
I have slots available but cannot upload a design?
You may have reached your overall upload limit. Simply drop us an email – [email protected] – to let us know when you’re having issues uploading further cards. We’ll be happy to help.
What is the difference between ‘moderated- profile only’ and ‘moderated- catalogue’?
If your card’s status is ‘moderated- profile only’, it will only be available to purchase directly from your profile and will not appear in the catalogue. You can read more about why this may be here.
If your card’s status is ‘moderated-catalogue’, congratulations! We think your design is a great fit for thortful. It will now appear in our catalogue and be discoverable by millions of thortful customers.
We hope this is helpful! As always, if you have any further questions, please do email us at [email protected].
