In honour of World Environment Day, on the 5th June 2024, we thought it’s about time you heard what we’re getting up to behind the scenes to make sure we’re doing our bit for ol’ Mother Earth. You see, without trees, thortful wouldn’t exist. (Unless you made cards out of chocolate or something, but that’s just impractical. And sticky.)
So it’s a no-brainer for us to give back to the forests that give us our paper by planting as many trees as we can.
Why are we telling you all this? Well, we think it’s important that businesses are transparent about what they’re doing to make eco conscious choices. We’re so proud of our efforts that we want to shout them from the rooftops as often as we can.
Ecologi x thortful - a Match Made in Heaven.
The World Environment Day 2024 theme is all about land restoration and preventing desertification and drought. They’ve even come up with a nifty slogan: “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.”
Since partnering with Ecologi 4 months ago, we have helped fund various projects around the world, along with other eco-conscious businesses.
We’ve now planted over 1,930 trees in all corners of the world, including Kenya, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal, (pause for breath…) Ecuador, Morocco, and Peru.
The Stats so far
In this project alone, we’re proud to say that thortful has prevented 22.3 tons of carbon from entering our atmosphere.
And along with the other projects we fund through Ecologi (which we’d love to talk about more in future blogs!) the trees we’ve planted have removed 210 tons of carbon from the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of 100 economy flights from London to Beijing! By restoring the natural forest areas, we’re doing our bit to become a part of #GenerationRestoration.

But that’s not all…
In addition to our partnership with Ecologi, we’re super proud of our other eco credentials.
We use vegan inks which, yes, is a thing. We’ve partnered with Ecologi to plant 1000s of trees in places that need it most. Our cards are 100% recyclable, too! Chuck ‘em away, and one day they might come right back to you.
We use Royal Mail and DPD, the top two eco friendliest couriers in the UK. Why? Because the Postie doesn’t emit any greenhouse gases (unless they had beans for breakfast.)
We also print all of our cards on the UK’s mainland. No shade, but some card companies print them overseas and fly them over because it’s cheaper…
