How to host the perfect children’s superhero party

With the Marvel Universe and plenty of other popular superhero films taking over our screens for well over a decade now, it’s no surprise that many children are wanting to celebrate their birthday in style with the perfect superhero party!

Of course, every parent wants to make sure they host the best celebration possible, but there can be a lot of different things to get right.

To make sure you don’t miss anything, we’ve pulled together inspiration on all the superhero party ideas that you need including incredible food, great decorations, and fun party games that will be sure to bring a cheesy smile to your child’s face.

And to top it all off, don’t forget to stick to the theme with a superhero birthday card.

Set up superhero party decorations

Decorations can really make or break a themed party as they create the atmosphere, so it’s important that everything be on point.

If you want to really astound your guests you’re going to have to commit and go all out with the decoration:

  • Blow up some balloons, preferably in colours that match with specific superheroes (you can even find ones with superhero logos on)
  • Hang themed banners and bunting from the walls
  • Lay the table with a printed cloth along with matching superhero plates and cups
  • Take it a step further with some life-size cut-outs of Spider-Man, Batman, or Iron Man to name a few

And in terms of a dress code, you can either dress up as a popular superhero or take it even further and create your own persona – you’ll just need to decide what your superpower and name would be!

Superhero party bag fillers

Arguably the best part of attending a children’s party is coming away with an epic party bag full of goodies and treats. However, these are not just any regular party bags, but those filled with items worthy of a true superhero!

Here are a few suggestions of things you might want to include:

  • A superhero mask
  • Some themed stickers
  • Finger lights (to add to your costume)
  • Superhero puzzle book
  • A bag of sweets (as a reward for saving the world)
  • A toy water pistol (to fight crime with)

Play some superhero party games

Every party needs some fun activities to keep the kids entertained and allow you to really let go but coming up with themed party games can be difficult. Luckily, we’ve done all the hard work for you.

Make your own superhero costume

Like the classic party game, why not add a superhero twist and see what sort of costumes you can create out of just tin foil and toilet paper? This is a great way to get everyone involved and the best part about it is a cost-effective party game that literally only requires two items and your imagination!

Just split up into small groups and see who can work together to create the most fashionable, inventive, or practical costumes!

Save the parent

Being a superhero requires agility as well as superintelligence, so what better way to test your abilities than with a real challenge? As part of this party game, tie up a parent to a chair with various pieces of rope – the aim is to win each mini-game and undo a piece of rope until all have been untied and the parent is saved!

Feel free to come up with your own mini games (depending on space available and what you have to hand):

  • See who can last the longest playing the floor is lava
  • Hold a race and whoever is the fastest wins
  • Find out who can pop the most balloons in a minute
  • Solve a riddle

Bring out some superhero themed party food

After all the party games, there’s bound to be some grumbly stomachs so it’s time to sit and down and pig out. While a bunch of hungry mini superheroes running around might seem like a big task, this is the time to really let your creativity shine with each option.

Don’t worry if you’re not a whizz in the kitchen either as we’ve come up with some yummy (yet easy) options:

  1. Captain America pizza

You can never go wrong with pizza at a party, and given how iconic Captain America’s shield is, this is a perfect way to combine the two and stay on theme. All you need to do is carefully place pepperoni (or tomato slices for any veggies) and cheese into the shield’s logo, cut a star shape out of cheese – then throw it into the oven and grab a slice.

  1. Batman sandwiches

These sandwiches will look impressive but are actually ridiculously easy to prepare – all you need to do is purchase a bat-shaped cookie cutter. After that, simply decide on which sandwich fillings you want to go with, make the sandwiches and cut them into shape – voila, Batman sandwiches!

  1. Hulk punch!

Okay, so we’re kind of pushing it a bit with this one, but we couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to make this reference and you need a refreshing drink to go with your food! To make this beverage, just mix a bit of green food colouring in with some sprite and you’re good to go.

  1. Thor’s Hammer sausages

For this one, you’re going to need classic cocktail sausages (a party food classic) and something like pretzel sticks to put them on top. Another super easy and quick party food option fit for a superhero birthday party if we do say so ourselves.

  1. Superman cupcakes

Everyone’s favourite part – dessert! Now there really is so much you could do with this, whether that be decorating some biscuits or making some cake pops. However, we’ve decided on Superman cupcakes so get started with your trusted cupcake recipe, add some frosting on top then finish it all off with a Superman cupcake topper.

That’s it, everything you need to know to successfully host a superhero birthday party that will be the talk of the school!

And if you’re looking to get prepared for the next one, what about a pirate theme? It just so happens that we already have a guide on how to host the perfect children’s pirate party that would come in extremely handy.
