Subject: Please Support Parliamentary Scrutiny of Ofcom’s Postal Service Proposals

Dear [MP’s Name],

I’m writing as someone working in the UK’s greeting card industry, which supports thousands of creative jobs, independent businesses, and high streets across the country.

Ofcom has recently proposed major changes to the Universal Postal Service.  Within this they reference:

  • Cutting Second Class letter deliveries from six days a week to alternate weekdays (Monday to Friday),
  •  The likelihood of further First Class postage prices, to deliberately reduce usage,
  •  Allowing Royal Mail to trial these changes before the consultation has even concluded, without enforcement action.

These changes risk disproportionately harming small businesses, rural communities, older people, and anyone who depends on reliable, affordable post. They also appear to bypass proper parliamentary scrutiny and may conflict with existing legislation which protects six-day deliveries.

Organisations including Citizens Advice, the Communication Workers Union (CWU), and thousands of members of the public have already voiced serious concerns. Over 16,000 people have signed this petition calling for the Government to protect six-day-a-week deliveries and the affordability of postal services.

I believe this deserves urgent attention in Parliament before any permanent changes are made.

Please will you raise this issue in the House and call for proper scrutiny of Ofcom’s proposals?

Thank you for your time and support.
Yours sincerely,
