This time, we\u2019re catching up with Rupert Fawcett, the mastermind behind Off The Leash, whose fundorable (translation: fun and adorable) cartoons have brought joy to pet lovers everywhere. But Rupert\u2019s journey hasn\u2019t been without its challenges – after suffering a stroke in January 2024, he spent months in hospital before beginning the long road to recovery. Working has been challenging and at first my work was a bit shaky which was\u00a0 \u00a0 difficult because I am such a perfectionist, also a stroke can really dent your confidence.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I\u2019ve had to be creative. My mobility has been challenged by the stroke and I had to learn to walk again in hospital. Also, it has affected my mental health and I have been suffering from depression.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Were there times you felt like you wouldn\u2019t be able to continue to create your art? If so, what kept you going?<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

It was a big relief that the stroke only affected the left side of my body as I draw with my right arm. My fears about work soon evaporated and I am still drawing pretty much on a daily basis. One of the key things that has kept me going has been the love and support of my friends and family.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

It has taught me that we never know what\u2019s round the corner in life so make the most of each day, it could be your last. Also, when you experience something like this, the biggest challenge is accepting it. Life will never be the same again but it\u2019s not over, try to accept that this is simply the beginning of a new chapter in your life and that eventually you will understand it\u2019s value.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
