Just in time for Mother\u2019s Day, we present to you our all-time favourite mum phrases and their other more hidden meanings.<\/p>\n<p>But before we get into these sayings, don&#8217;t forget to let your dear mother know just how much you appreciate her is by grabbing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thortful.com\/cards\/mothers-day\">Mother\u2019s Day card<\/a> from thortful where you can find something that really suits her.<\/p>\n<h2>Caring mum phrases<\/h2>\n<p>Part of being a mother means being super thoughtful and kind-hearted beings, which in turn means they have many great caring mum phrases. Some are extremely specific to certain situations, but most are simply telling you to not do something. Here are just a few of our favourites:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cYou\u2019ll live.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Stop fretting, you\u2019ll be fine.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDon\u2019t put your coat on yet or you\u2019ll not feel the benefit outside.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I don\u2019t want you to be freezing when you go outside.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOne day you\u2019ll thank me.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I\u2019m only trying to help you.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDon\u2019t put that in your mouth, you don\u2019t know where it\u2019s been.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Stop being so gross.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDon\u2019t sit too close to the TV, you\u2019ll get square eyes.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Why do you need to sit so close; you\u2019re blocking my view.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019ll always love you.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong>\u00a0You may annoy me sometimes but there\u2019s nothing that could make me not love you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Things mums say when you\u2019re being troublesome<\/h2>\n<p>Now whilst I\u2019m sure we\u2019d all love to claim that we were absolutely angelic as children but if we\u2019re being honest then that would be a bit of a fib. Luckily, it seems like every mother has a long list of phrases ready to use, here are some of our favourite things mums say when you were being troublesome:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cYou live under my roof. My house, my rules.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Until you move out you listen to me.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDon\u2019t make me ask again. I\u2019m going to give you until the count of three. 1\u2026 2\u2026\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I don\u2019t have time for this.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m not asking you, I\u2019m telling you.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t ask for an opinion.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cStop crying or I\u2019ll give you something to cry about.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Don\u2019t test me right now.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI will turn this car around.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Don\u2019t make me turn this car around.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI don\u2019t care who started it, I\u2019m finishing it.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Honestly, I\u2019m so tired of these silly fights and arguments.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYou better wipe that look off your face.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Don\u2019t look so smarmy.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf you want to act like a child, I\u2019ll treat you like one.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I think we can both agree that you need to grow up.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWait till I tell your dad.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> If you think I\u2019m angry, just you wait.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAm I talking to a brick wall?\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Why don\u2019t you ever listen?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Random mum sayings<\/h2>\n<p>Then there are just those times when she comes out with the most random mum sayings which are proper gems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI want never gets.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Ask more politely next time.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSarcasm is the lowest form of wit.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Stop trying to be a smart-ass.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cMoney doesn\u2019t grow on trees.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I\u2019m not buying you that.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAsk a stupid question, get a stupid answer.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I\u2019m not even going to dignify that with an actual response.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAct your age and not your shoe size.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> When will you grow up?<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf [insert name] jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> You need to start thinking for yourself.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWhen you have kids, you\u2019ll understand.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> I hope your kids are brats like you.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWere you born in a barn?\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Tidy up after yourself!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Funny mum quotes<\/h2>\n<p>As to be expected, there are just some downright funny mum quotes that they can come out with in hilarious situations. However, it might be worth trying to stifle any laughter after hearing these to avoid annoying them further:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWho\u2019s she? The cat\u2019s mother?\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Excuse me, I have a name.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYou treat this house like a hotel. What am I, your maid?\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Start tidying up after yourself.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDo as I say not as I do.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> It\u2019s different rules when you\u2019re my age.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHave I not told you this before?!\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>What it means:<\/strong> Clearly you don\u2019t listen.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m a cool mum.
